The Central Penn League in Region 7 has finalized its playoff bracket.  Philipsburg will not be participating in the playoffs.  The first round matchups are as follows:

STATE COLLEGE--A night after Mifflin County was the beneficiary of a rocky inning from visiting Clarence that resulted in a mercy-rule 11-1 victory, it almost turned the trick again.

State College made four consecutive errors to begin the seventh inning, but Oliver Daily came on to strike out the game's final three batters and give Post 245 the 6-4 home victory in an American Legion baseball game in State College.

LEWISTOWN--Mifflin County and Clarence looked to be in a pitcher's duel through three innings on Monday night.

The two teams combined for one hit over that time, but everything went haywire after that and Mifflin County used Clarence starter Noah Chambers' ineffectiveness against him to plate five fourth-inning runs and knock off the visitors 11-1 in five innings at Mifflin County High School.

The Central Penn League of Region 7 will begin its postseason tournament on Friday.  The first round match-ups are as follows.

Friday, July 10

The pairings are set for the first round of the District 31 League Tournament in Region 7.  The first round is a best-of-three format.  Games will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday, and if necessary, on Thursday.  The matchups are as follows:

• #8 Yough vs. #1 Murrysville
• #7 Unity vs. #2 Latrobe
• #6 Irwin vs. #3 West Hempfield
• #5 Kiski Valley vs. #4 Hempfield East

The Cambria County League Tournament will commence on Wednesday with four best-of-three opening round series.  The winners of each series will move on to a best-of-three series semifinal.  The opening round matchups are as follows:

• #8 Ebensburg vs. #1 Claysburg
• #5 Bedford vs. #4 Patton
• #6 Cernics vs. #3 Lilly
• #7 Stoystown vs. #2 St. Michaels

The Indiana County League playoffs will begin on Friday with the following matchups.  The tournament will be a best-of-three series format.

Beech Creek is off to a perfect start in the Central Penn League of Region 7.  The league leaders are 8-0 and enjoy a 3 game lead over second place Mifflin County (4-2).  State College is half a game behind second, currently holding a 2-1 league record.  Bellefonte (3-3) and Clearfield (2-3) round out the teams that currently have multiple league wins.  Huntingdon (1-2), Phillipsburg (1-3), Altoona (1-4), and Clarence (1-5) round out the league standings.

District 31 League

Murrysville is off to as fast of a start as any team in the state.  Atop the league standings at 6-0, they've outscored opponents 81-2 in the early going.  West Hempfield and Kiski Area are also undefeated in the league at 3-0 and 2-0, respectively.  Unity currently has the second most wins in the league with a 4-2 while Irwin and Hempfield East round out the teams that are above 0.500 so far this season.

The Cambria County League will utilize three divisions for the upcoming season using the following format:

North: Ebensburg, Lilly, Patton, Portage

Central: Cernic's, Richland, St. Michael, Stoystown

South: Bedford, Claysburg, Somerset

Two days of play have been completed in the Region 7 Tournament being held in Clearfield.  The tournament's opening day on Saturday saw a couple of closely contested games.  In game 1, Beech Creek of the Central Penn League topped Indiana of the Indiana County League 3-2.  The day's lone lopsided score came in the second game when Cambria County rep Bedford topped District 31 champion Unity 14-1 in seven innings.  Claysburg kept the Cambria's winning ways going with a 9-5 ...
